Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT)

What is Superficial Radiation Treatment (SRT)?

Superficial Radiation Treatment (SRT) is the latest advancement in nonsurgical therapy for nonmelanoma skin cancer and keloids. This nonsurgical treatment delivers precise, low-dose radiation that only goes skin-deep. It safely destroys nonmelanoma skin cancer cells, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma — the two most common types of skin cancer.

Superficial Radiation Treatment allows Dr. Drozdowski to treat cancer cells without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. Unlike invasive skin cancer surgeries that often require plastic surgery to repair the damage to your skin, SRT allows Dr. Drozdowski to effectively treat skin cancer without cutting or stitching. As a result, there’s less risk of infection and no need for reconstructive surgery to repair scar tissue.

How does SRT work?

At Holland Dermatology, Dr. Drozdowski uses the cutting-edge technology of the SRT-100 Vision™ by Sensus® Healthcare. The SRT-100 Vision uses a precisely calibrated dose of superficial radiation therapy that penetrates only 5 millimeters below the surface of your skin. Dr. Drozdowski uses high-frequency ultrasound guidance to target the area of cancerous cells. She adjusts the level of radiation to treat only areas of skin cancer or keloids, while leaving the surrounding, healthy tissue unharmed.

What are the benefits of SRT?

The SRT-100 Vision is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the safe, effective treatment of nonmelanoma skin cancers and keloid scars. The many benefits of this nonsurgical approach include:

  • More than 95% cure rate, similar to the outcome of Mohs Surgery (an invasive skin cancer treatment)
  • No anesthesia needed
  • No cutting, bleeding, or stitches
  • No pain
  • No downtime
  • No scarring
  • Short, in-office treatments
  • No need for reconstructive surgeries after treatment

The SRT-100 Vision works especially well on areas of skin cancer on your face, neck, and head, where 80% of all skin cancers occur. SRT can also treat keloids and skin cancer lesions on your arms, legs, back, and torso. If you’re prone to keloids, Dr. Drozdowski can restore your skin’s health and your self-confidence with these quick, painless treatments, so you can focus on your life rather than your obtrusive scars.
